10.15 a.m. ‘The history and importance of the Arts & Crafts movement’, by Prof. Margaret Strobel, former director of the Jane Addams Hull- House museum, Chicago (invited)
10.45 a.m. ‘Community art in The Netherlands and Flanders, a historical overview’, by Prof. Herman Baert, lecturer at the University of Leuven (invited)
11.15 a.m. ‘Architectural and industrial design in the early 20th C. as tools for community development and education’, by Mr. Rob Dettingmeijer, lecturer at the University of Utrecht
11.45 a.m. Coffee break
12.00 p.m. Forum discussion on ‘The role of art and community education in the late 19th and early 20th Century’
12.45 p.m. Lunch break
13.30 p.m. Excursion by coach to Amsterdam: visit to the Het Schip centre for Amsterdam School architecture and guided walking tour

09.15 a.m. First series of lectures on national developments and/or examples of community arts in various countries: presentation of papers, followed by discussion (proposals for contributions will be welcomed – see ‘Call for Papers’)
• ‘Architectural realisations of the ideas of Settlement by Kon Wajiro’, by Prof. Izumi Kuroishi, lecturer at the Aoyama Gakuin University, Tokyo
10.45 a.m. Coffee Break
11.00 a.m. Second series of lectures on national developments and/or examples in community arts in various countries
• World art, national art and community arts: concerning Frank Lloyd Wright’, by Prof. Haruhiko Fujita, Osaka University
12.30 p.m. Lunch break
13.30 p.m. Excursion in small groups on foot and/or on bike on community art history and community art projects in and around Leiden
17.00 p.m. Return to Leidse Volkshuis or hotel

10.15 a.m. ‘The role of the Stichting Lodewijk de Raedt and the history of the Folk High School movement in Flanders’, by Tom Vanwing, chairman of Citizenne, Folk High School of Brussels
10.45 a.m. ‘Community education and community art in Central and Eastern Europe’

• ‘The architect as educator’, by Prof. Ruud van der Veen, Columbia University, New York
10.30 a.m. Coffee Break
10.45 a.m. Second series of lectures on national developments and/or examples in community education in various countries
12.30 p.m. Excursion and visit to local institutions/projects for community education in and around Leiden (4-8 groups of 25) – on foot and/or bike and/or public transport;
13.00 p.m. lunch at the excursion sites
15.30 p.m. Return at the Leidse Volkshuis; tea break
16.00 p.m. Plenary meeting: forum discussion on the results of the conference, evaluation and plans for future conferences; announcement of the next (dual)conference
17.00 p.m. Closing of the conference
